Collider has named Mighty Coconut one of six animation studios that are pushing the boundaries of the industry. Dave Trumbore states, “Mighty Coconut felt like the freshest studio of the bunch, the underdog, the scrappy upstart with big ambitions and a pipeline of projects that are poised to shine the spotlight on the Austin, Texas studio.” Full article. “Script to Screen” with Matthew McConaughey wrapped this spring with Jeff Nichols (LOVING, TAKE SHELTER) visiting class for a total of nine hours. The award-winning writer-director (who is currently prepping ALIEN NATION for Fox) took students on a deep dive into his indie classic MUD starring McConaughey as the title character. McConaughey himself visited class via video from the Cleveland set of his next film WHITE BOY RICK. Two Shot West’s Scott Rice teaches the course at the University of Texas at Austin.
The Austin Chronicle recently highlighted Mighty Coconut’s magnificent work on their YouTube Red series, KINGS OF ATLANTIS. Scott Rice has been nominated for the prestigious University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award. Nominees must clearly demonstrate their commitment to teaching and a sustained capability to deliver excellence to the undergraduate learning experience. Rice has taught in the film program at the University of Texas since 2004. His most high profile class is “Script to Screen” with Matthew McConaughey.
Mighty Coconut is now working with Two Shot West to bring premium 3D animation to commercials. Mighty Coconut has breathed life into countless film and television properties, interactive content, installations and national commercials. Their most recent TV project was KINGS OF ATLANTIS for YouTube Red. Fox Animation / Blue Sky is making a feature film version of Mighty Coconut’s wildly successful short film PIGEON: IMPOSSIBLE. It hits theaters in 2019.
Scott Rice’s Lemi Shine campaign for McGarrah Jessee recently won an Austin ADDY Award in the category of Internet Commercial Campaign. The comedic spots mock fictional cleaning products Toxi Clean and Namastain. Congratulations to executive creative director James Mikus, creative director Michael Anderson, copywriter Kevin Dunleavy, art director Ross Aboud, producer Marlena Villery, editor Joey Moore and post producer Austen Menges.
Two Shot West produced visual effects for a Way to Quit campaign featuring smoking pets. The campaign features a dog, a puppy, a parrot, a bunny and a cat smoking as titles warn of the consequences of secondhand smoke. Visual effects were executed by Wes Meyers of Burning Tractor. Kyle Curtis creative directed for R&R Partners in Salt Lake City.
The Saunders Sisters recently landed a two-book deal with Amazon Publishing. The first book in their young-adult dystopian series will be published fall of 2018.
